Registry Guide

Registry guide

How the registry should work.

The registry connects a durable animal identity with documented lineage, ownership history, and responsible breeding records while keeping unknown information clearly marked.

One animal, one durable record

Identity anchors the history.

A registry number should remain stable throughout the animal’s life. A microchip or other approved identifier can link the living animal to the record when performed and read appropriately.

Registry number

A unique public reference for the record, separate from a seller’s temporary listing ID.

Physical identifier

When used, record the identifier type, number, placement date, and qualified person or clinic.

Descriptive fields

Photographs, morph, hatch date or estimate, sex when known, and status support recognition without replacing the identifier.

Document evidence and uncertainty

Unknown is a valid value.

Parentage should be supported by breeder and clutch records. The system should show whether information is verified, owner-reported, estimated, or unavailable.

Parents and breeder

Link sire, dam, pairing, breeder, and hatch group when documentation exists.

Genetic claims

Do not infer hidden genetics from appearance alone. Record the evidence behind a claim.

Breeding decisions

Use relationship information to reduce accidental close pairings; a record is guidance, not a health guarantee.

Preserve history when ownership changes

The animal’s record should outlive a transaction.

A secure transfer process can confirm the current steward while preserving earlier lineage and identity information. Public pages should avoid exposing private addresses or contact details.

Initiate

The current owner starts a transfer using the registry number and appropriate proof.

Accept

The new owner confirms receipt and updates stewardship information.

Correct

Disputed or mistaken records need an auditable correction route rather than silent replacement.
