Buying and shipping guide
Know what happens before checkout.
A live-animal purchase depends on accurate listings, a prepared buyer, safe weather, humane packing, clear communication, and immediate receiving care.
Understand what is offered
Clarify the animal, seller, and terms.
Before paying, confirm whether the listing is WYSIWYG, review current size and feeding information, read health and live-arrival policies, and ask about missing lineage.
WYSIWYG or representative
Know whether the photograph shows your exact animal or an example of a group.
Seller information
Review identity, experience, location, communication, and adherence to marketplace standards.
Total commitment
Budget for the aquarium, cooling, testing, food, veterinary care, and ongoing electricity as well as the purchase price.
Animal welfare sets the schedule
A delay can be the correct outcome.
Sellers should choose appropriate packaging, transit speed, and weather windows. Carrier delays, extreme temperatures, and a buyer who cannot receive immediately are valid reasons to reschedule.
Weather check
Review conditions at origin, sorting hubs, and destination rather than relying only on the local forecast.
Humane packing
Insulation, water volume, secure containers, oxygen, and temperature control must match the route and season.
Delivery coordination
The buyer and seller should agree on the ship date, tracking, receiving person, and communication plan.
Protect the live-arrival process
Document first and follow instructions.
Open the package promptly, photograph the condition, retain packaging until the animal is confirmed well, and follow the seller’s stated reporting window.
- Be present or arrange a qualified receiver
- Photograph the unopened box and internal packaging
- Record arrival time and visible condition
- Follow the seller’s written acclimation directions
- Report concerns with the order number, timeline, and photographs
